New Bradford City chairman Gordon Gibb - who bought his 50 per cent share in the club for a nominal fee of £1 - today admitted he was star-struck by the performance that greeted his first game at the Valley Parade helm.
Theme park boss Mr Gibb, the youngest chairman in the Football League, was thrilled as City earned a 0-0 draw with promotion favourites Wolves.
He said: "I'm fully-blooded now and it feels great. It was an excellent start, very professional and gritty with loads of passion and heart.
"You've got to remember the rollercoaster ride the guys have been through this year.
"The only continuity they've had from last season to this is each other and that showed through in the team spirit. If that's going to be the level of the commitment the team are going to show this year, then we've got nothing to be afraid of."
Mr Gibb went into the dressing room before kick-off to speak to manager Nicky Law and the squad.
"It's not really my style to do that," he added. "But Nicky said it may help to settle the team down.
"The response of the players was very good."
A final agreement with the Professional Footballers' Association should be reached by the end of the week when City will officially come out of administration.
Former chairman Geoffrey Richmond, said: "The final documentation has still to be signed. There are one or two loose ends to tie up in respect of the PFA settlement."
As exclusively revealed in Saturday's Telegraph & Argus sports pink Yorkshire Sports, Mr Richmond sold his 50 per cent stake in the club to Mr Gibb for £1 on Saturday morning after a frantic night of negotiations.
The Football League finally gave City the go-ahead to rejoin Division One at 8.30pm on Friday - more than four hours after its original deadline had elapsed.
