A teenage father-of-one who took part in last summer's Bradford riots has been locked up in a young offenders' institution for 18 months.

Mohammed Yousaf, 18, was caught on video hurling a number of missiles during violent clashes with police 13 months ago.

At one point, he was seen ducking away from a petrol bomb as it was thrown towards officers.

Prosecutor Neil Clark told Bradford Crown Court that Yousaf, pictured, was first spotted in White Abbey Road just before 7.50pm near a burning car.

He was last spotted more than five hours later in the Duckworth Lane area of the city.

Yousaf handed himself in to police last February a short time after his picture was published in a newspaper.

When interviewed, he said he thought he had thrown about seven small stones or bricks.

He said he had been there with a few friends since four or five o'clock in the afternoon until the early hours of the following morning. He admitted he "got carried away" with what happened and told the police he was sorry.

Yousaf, of Girlington Road, Bradford, pleaded guilty to riot. He also admitted possessing cannabis.

Mitigating, Abdul Iqbal told the court that the offence had not been premeditated.

He said Yousaf did not appear to have brought with him any clothing or masking to hide his face.

He said Yousaf - who has a young wife and a one-year-old child - admitted he had been stupid after curiosity got the better of him and he became involved.

Judge Kerry Macgill described the riots as "terrible", saying they had brought a great deal of fear.
