A serious disturbance which started in a Bingley pub erupted into violence and continued with 40 to 50 people in a nearby street, some of them fighting with police officers, Bingley magistrates were told today. A girl and thirteen men, all from Bingley, appeared on a total of 24 charges. Mr Richard Hodgson, prosecuting, said other unidentified youths were involved
in the disturbance.

The Minister of Food has decided to remove price control on chocolate couverture, chewing gum and certain higher-priced chocolates and sweets as from August 17. With regard to higher priced sweets, price control will be removed from all chocolate confectionery which is classified at retail prices exceeding six shillings per pound, and from sugar confectionery which is classified at retail prices exceeding five shillings per pound.
