About 300 people have signed a petition backing a planning application by the trustees of the Abu Bakar Mosque at 16 to 18, Lapage Street, Bradford Moor. The mosque was given temporary planning permission for three years in 1974 by the Department of the Environment after a public inquiry. Bradford City Council had previously refused planning permission, and, as the mosque continued to function, had served an enforcement notice.

Telephone users will be hearing a new ringing tone of higher pitch, though the familiar "burr-burr, burr-burr" will remain, the Post Office announced today. The alteration to the higher tone has been carried out at a few exchanges and will gradually be extended throughout the country.
