Keighley Show - cancelled last year due to the foot and mouth crisis - is to go ahead next month.

But the annual agricultural showpiece event will not feature sheep, cattle or goats due to continued restrictions on livestock movements.

Organisers say that all other classes will go ahead as planned, and that extra attractions are scheduled to help compensate for the loss of sections.

The September 7 event is being staged as normal at Marley fields.

Fiona Denby, the show's publicity officer, said: "We consulted widely with our regular exhibitors of sheep, cattle and goats and decided against including those sections this year.

"There are some foot and mouth related restrictions still in place, and if we had proceeded with the categories it is likely entries would have been quite low. Hopefully they will be back, at full strength, next year."

Classes that will feature include horses, the flower academy, handicraft and domestic, honey and wax, horticulture, pigeons, poultry and bantams, and rabbits.

In addition there will be a dog show run by the Worth Valley K9 Care Club, for which entries will be accepted on the day, and a pet show open to children aged U16.

Vintage tractors, miniature horses, a falconry display, Morris dancers, children's rides and a host of stalls and trade stands will also be there.

A special bus service will operate - from about 11am - between Keighley bus station and the show ground, via the railway station, to take people to and from the venue.

Tickets for the show can be bought in advance priced £4 for adults (£5 on the day), £3 for OAPs, and £2 for children aged 5-15, or there is a family admission - priced £10 - for two adults and two children. Tickets can be bought from Keighley Information Centre, in the town hall.

There will be free parking at Marley.

The organisers would like to hear from any amateur photographer interested in compiling an album on the day for show president Peter Crabtree. Expenses would be paid. Anyone interested should contact Fiona on 01535 646479.

The show will be featured in an exhibition - in the display window outside Boots, in the Airedale Centre - for a fortnight, starting on August 25. For further details about entering show classes contact secretary Inez Spencer on 01535 645074.
