This Sunday sees the senior final of the League - a between the two clubs who should have been involved in the Cowling Cup Final last week - Barrowford and Embsay.

In the 30 years that the Red Rose side has been in the competition the two sides have only met three times. In 1986 Barrowford won by 58 runs. In 1994 the two sides tied in the game at Barrowford with Embsay winnings the replay by 9 wickets. Finally Embsay won by 5 wickets in 1996.

With regards to actually winning the trophy one has to go back to 1988 to find the last and only time the Bull Holme side were triumphant. In fact that is their one and only final appearance.

By comparison Embsay are seasoned campaigners in the cup. In the last eleven alone they have won the trophy 5 times. However all that history counts for nowt in this game.

The two sides have met once at the time of writing - their second encounter will be the day before the final - and the Shires Lane side won by 71 runs.

The Lancastrians are lead by a man with a cup final pedigree, John Hargreaves, who has appeared in two finals with Pendle Forest and was the man of the match in the one run triumph of 1999 over U. Wharfedale.

They also have Ajmal Choudry who can turn a game with either bat or bowl, Nigel Hargreaves who can be rock like in defence. David Hartley can also be destructive with bat or ball and Glen Hargreaves backs up brother John with the bowling. They have an Antipodean in Dean Wedding.

The White Rose side is lead by James Tiffany who has some fine batsmen in Duncan Bullough, Jason Waddington and Rob Bateman. Their two destructive batters are Aussie Mick Cox and ex Addingham man Duncan Ward, both came demolish attacks. The bowling honours rest with ever-dependable Stephen Speak, Cox, Scott Robinson and spinner Richard Phillipson. Should he be available Robert Cowley can also be a match winner with the ball.

All in all a match which should be a treat to watch. Play starts at 1-30pm at Ingrow Cricket Club and Dacre Son and Hartley again sponsor the game.

For those not familiar with the whereabouts of Ingrow's ground, take the Halifax Road out of Keighley, just past Ingrow Station turn left. Go to the top of the hill at the junction turn right. Proceed on there until the macadam gives way to cobblestones. Turn left up the hill for about 500 yards and the ground is on the left hand side.

n There was no play at Cononley on Sunday due to the unfit condition of the ground. It is hoped that the game will now be played on Sunday 25th August 2002.
