Every penny raised by Bradford's War on Cancer Appeal is being spent on research, according to the Appeals chairman Dr Arnold Moore. After allegations in a Sunday newspaper that the Imperial Cancer Research Fund - a national appeal fund - is spending only 35p in every pound raised, Mr. Moore assured people in Bradford that all the proceeds from donations and local fund-raising events is being forwarded to Bradford Royal Infirmary and the university to finance research into cancer.

A crowd of nearly 6,000 saw Geoff Broadbent, Bradford, riding a 346cc Enfield, win the Grand National trophy of the Wakefield and District Motor Sports Club at the Bentley Springs motorcycle scramble. Geoff won the trophy over a gruelling course. To qualify he had to be among the five fastest riders of the day in the previous events.
