A 27-year-old father-of-two has been jailed for four years after he was caught on video throwing three stones towards police during a three-hour period of rioting.
Devout Muslim Mohammed Pandor, who had no previous convictions, told a probation officer that he was "disgusted with his actions'' and apologised to local people and police officers.
Pandor, who had been employed by Grattan for eight years, initially denied being involved in the disturbances when he was questioned by the police, but at a later interview he agreed the person caught on film was him.
He pleaded guilty to riot and his barrister Timothy Stead told Bradford Crown Court how Pandor, of Arncliffe Terrace, Great Horton, had been stirred up like many others by rumours circulating that day.
"He had heard that other people, members of his own community, were being attacked by racists beyond the police lines,'' said Mr Stead.
Judge Scott was handed various references in support of Pandor, including one from the president of his mosque, and he accepted that he was an excellent member of the community.
"I'm satisfied that you don't pose any serious risk of getting into trouble again,'' he conceded.
"Unhappily, of course this was a serious offence.''
Judge Scott noted that Pandor had spent a lot of his time on the streets standing around, but he also pointed out that he had changed a covering over his face from a black one to a white one during the disturbances.
"You changed your appearance during the course of this incident no doubt to confuse those with video cameras and the like.''
