Bradford's electronics industry suffered another blow today as Baildon-based Filtronic Components Ltd confirmed it was looking to shed jobs.

The loss-making business, which employs 182 people, has entered into consultation with its staff over possible job losses.

A spokesman for the firm, based at Acorn Park, Charlestown, said: "The firm is losing money on a monthly basis and steps need to be taken to ensure that the firm returns to profitability by the end of the year.

"It looks likely that there will be jobs losses to help cut costs.

"At a meeting a figure of 33 was proposed."

The firm is part of Shipley-based Filtronic Plc, which recently announced a 46 per cent rise in profits to £17.8 million.

The jobs blow comes just months after fellow electronics firm Pace Micro Technology announced it was looking to cut 180 jobs at its sites in Saltaire, Cambridge and Bracknell.

The firm, which makes digital set-top boxes, made the move to cut costs after it saw profits and turnover slump.

Just two years ago, Filtronic Components won orders worth tens of millions of pounds for electronic warfare equipment to be used in fighter jets.
