A group of Bradford youngsters were hit for six today when England cricketer Mark Butcher, pictured, paid them a visit - and handed over a cheque worth £10,000.
The Test star visited the Humsaath project in Little Horton Lane, Bradford, for a game of quick cricket and to offer tips to a dozen children who use the NSPCC service.
He was visiting the centre after deciding to hand over a £10,000 charity prize which he won by becoming the first England star to hit a special Scrumpy Jack sponsorship board during a recent Test match at Old Trafford. Mr Butcher chose the NSPCC after learning of the charity's work during its Full Stop campaign.
"I have got two daughters of my own and when you hear about what has been in the news recently about the mistreatment of children, then I think it strikes a chord in most people's hearts," he said.
The star, who will be playing for England against India in the Test at Headingley which starts on Thursday, said he had been bowled over by his welcome.
