Philip Harrison of the Coniston Cold Young Farmers' Club retained the trophy at the annual sheepdog trials of the Settle District YFCs held at the Hellifield auction mart. Runner-up was James Garth of the Lawkland Club, and the judge was Mr G. Bolland of Airton.

Bradford smokers who are still finding it difficult (despite the alleged "tightness" of money) to obtain two leading makes of cigarettes, will find of interest the explanation of a local wholesale tobacconist. There is, he says, no shortage at all of cigarettes. His warehouse is heavily stocked, and he has plenty of cigarettes even at 10 for 10d. as against 10 for 1s. 9d. which is the usual prevailing price.
