A motorcyclist was killed when he was involved in a head-on collision with a van near the Herder's public house on the Oldfield to Laneshaw Bridge road near Keighley.
Firefighters from Keighley, Haworth and Colne used jacking equipment to free the stricken rider, who was trapped underneath the van along with his bike.
Leading firefighter Ian Jackson said the rider of a Yamaha R6 motorcycle - who has not been named - travelling with a Kawasaki Ninja bike towards Keighley had sustained fatal injuries after the machine was involved in a collision with a blue Nissan van driving towards Colne at 8.15pm on Wednesday.
The rider of the Kawasaki was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The van driver was not injured. The road was closed for about two hours while the scene of the accident was cleared.
Any witnesses are asked to call police at Colne on (01282) 472542.
