EMBSAY duly collected the first leg of what they hope will evolve into a J P Mewies Craven League quartet of cup and league successes when they overpowered Barrowford to win the Wynn Cup at Ingrow.
Although Embsay's supremacy was never in doubt once they won the toss on Sunday afternoon and amassed a total of 213-7 before rain took the match into a second day, the conclusion to the game was something of an anti-climax.
With the gathering gloom making conditions almost impossible for the last pair of Barrowford batsmen, the asking rate having risen beyond an attainable figure and the prospect of the teams being recalled for another night to play out the inevitable defeat, Barrowford's acting captain sensibly took the bull by the horns and declared the innings closed at 90-8 to save further inconvenience for all concerned.
It was hardly the way anyone wanted the match to end, but in the circumstances, it was the only realistic route to take.
