The Humber lifeboat City of Bradford IV, was today struggling to free a trawler grounded on the gale-swept Lincolnshire coast. In a perilous night drama operation the powered inflatable dinghy carried on the boat rescued the crew of four - the water was too shallow to bring the lifeboat close to the trawler.

New winter London-Bradford-London expresses for businessmen will run non-stop between Hitchen and Doncaster, a stretch of 124 miles, at an average speed of 58 m.p.h. The winter train service which will operate from 15 September until 7 June next year, will see the acceleration of 63 trains by from 10 to 61 minutes compared with last winter. Reserved seat and refreshment services to be increased.
