An accident in which a motorcycle stuntman was badly injured brought gasps of horror from the large crowd at Bradford's Metro 77 spectacular. The accident was the only serious incident to mar a hugely successful two-day bonanza of fun at Horsfall Playing Fields, Buttershaw.

Sunday will be a doubly important day for Bradford's Moslem community. The celebration of Ide Ul Baqar - a service held 70 days after the Ramadan period of fasting - will be combined with commemoration of Pakistan's Independence Day, which actually fell on August 16. The gathering on Sunday morning at the Mechanics' Institute will include Moslems from many parts of the country. Prayers will be led by Mr Assem Lepic, a Bosnian working as an engineer in Bradford. He is the imam, or priest, for Yorkshire.
