ADEL recovered from a mid-season slump in form to carry off a well-earned Airedale and Wharfedale League title. This was wrapped up with their victory over reigning champions Bilton on Saturday.
Adel made an excellent start to the season but then suffered a mid-season slump in which they became draw specialists. However, a late flourish has seen them lift the title with three games left to play.
Their win at Bilton along with Follifoot only managing a losing draw at Guiseley saw Adel clinch the title in style.
Adel posted a score of 213-5 with Michael Dallaston top scoring with 46 and the ever reliable David Standring hitting 44. John Francas (4-49) and Tim Grey (3-51) then restricted Bilton to 165 in reply although Nick Boxall produced an excellent 62.
Follifoot's hopes of catching Adel were demolished at Guiseley where a revitalised side smashed 251-5 with Glen Taylor leading the way with a fine 74 and young Chris Thompson producing another good innings of 68. There were good supporting innings from Mark Ross with 26 and skipper Steve Thompson with 37 not out.
This was Guiseley's highest score of the season but Andrew Paley was determined not to let the batsmen take all the glory and he returned 6-73 as Follifoot closed on 206-8 with Brian Smart making an unbeaten 90.
Guiseley are not out of the woods yet as Menston took six points off bottom side Rawdon as they continue their great Houdini act.
Menston made 185 with another good innings from Gary Thompson (85). Rawdon were then dismissed for 87 as Michael Brendankamp took 5-31 and Richard Taylor 3-45.
Green Lane moved up into third place after their five wicket win over Burley. David Pike with 75 assisted Burley to a score of 208-8, Ian Frost also making a useful contribution of 40, but then Lane knocked off the runs for the loss of five wickets.
Barry McCormick (91 no) and Garfield Williams (47) shared a third wicket stand of 110.
North Leeds had a five wickets win over Steeton with Rob Winter leading the way with a superb 95 as they rubbed off the Steeton score of 238-7. Winter had good support from Nigel Leech who made 45 and Andrew Aldred with 30 no.
Winter's knock included 3 sixes and 13 fours. Steeton had hit their highest score of the season but it was not enough.
Beckwithshaw could muster only 124 against Collingham who went on to win by two wickets. Collingham struggled against the bowling of Matthew Smart who returned 5-47.
