Guiseley 1
Stocksbridge PS 2
GUISELEY played two games over the Bank Holiday but still victory eludes them. They are still creating the chances but their shooting is woeful and the only goal they have scored in four games has come from the penalty spot.
Goalless draws against Radcliffe Borough and away at Ossett Town on Saturday coupled with a 1-0 defeat at Workington were the background to this latest clash on Monday.
Former Guiseley striker Mick Norbury was in the Stocksbridge side and although he won most things in the air he was not the potent striker the Guiseley side is obviously crying out for at the moment.
Stocksbridge 'keeper Jamie Holmshaw was alert to an early effort from Ryan Senior and this gave him confidence. Senior and David Cooke both had headers saved before the deadlock was broken in the 35th minute by Paul Jackson who powered in his header.
In the second-half Simon Trevitt and Senior saw their efforts saved before Stocksbridge stretched their lead with a Jeremy Illingworth goal. Guiseley threw on young strikers Lee Reilly and Kevin Newhouse for Robert Pell and David Cooke in a bid to pull something back. The side's only reward was a Mark Stuart penalty after the former Bradford City player had been fouled.
Guiseley will be looking to find their goal sc -ring form on Saturday when they embark upon their FA Cup glory chase with a visit to Maine Road, Manchester. (3 pm).
Any replay would be at Nethermoor on Monday night otherwise Guiseley will play Bishop Auckland on Monday (7.45 pm).The Reserves entertain Morecambe on Saturday (2 pm).
