BRACKEN GHYLL: There was a good turnout for the traditional August Bank Holiday Social Golf Day on Monday. Mixed teams of three played a Stableford competition with one score counting on the first, two on the second, three on the thirdrd repeated throughout the 18 holes.
Some spectacular golf was played with 75 per cent of the teams beating the par score of 72 points. The eventual prize winners were:
1, Rose Sutcliffe, George Burrell and Norman Blackburn - 81 points
2, Jean Stead, Robert Stead and Mark Holden - 79 points
3, Sue Stones, Ian Vokes-Tilley and John Crellin - 77 points
Bracken Ghyll is also pleased to announce that they will treat all visitors during the month of September to a free drink after their round to celebrate the progress made with course development.
HORSFORTH: The Men's Section had a mid-week competition with 57 members playing for the Stan Hainsworth Trophy. There were vouchers for the first three positions in each age group with the trophy going to the best score of the day.
Group One (age 55 to 64) - 1, D Jones (13), 43 points; 2, B Corcoran (12), 36, best back nine; 3, M G S Booth (19), 36. Group Two (age 65+) - 1, R Turnbull (13), 38 points, best back nine; 2, P Maskill (19), 38; 3, H K Waite (10), 37. Winner of the Trophy: D Jones.
Saturday's Competition was the 75th Anniversary Fourball, with 74 pairs entering. Results - 1, R Baldwin (17) and M King (17), 61; 2, P Thompson (15) and M Thompson (13), 61; 3, J Gunn (10) and C Vine (10), 62. There were then five pairs with a score of 63.
Monday's Bank Holiday Stableford had 69 entries. Division One - 1, A Read (12), 38 points; 2, S Lewis (3), 37; 3, S Bennett (6), 37. G O'Sullivan and R Hudson also scored 37 points. Division Two - 1, Mr R Lewis, sen (15), 42 points; 2, R Emsley (14), 40; 3, G Haddock (18), 39. Division Three - 1, R Annan (19), 39 points.
