Cleckeaton and Yorkshire Academy cricketer Richard Pyrah was thrown into the national spotlight this week when he was 12th man for England at Headingley.
The 19-year-old has been in brilliant form for Cleckheaton this season and is the Bradford League's leading batsman with 682 runs.
But it was Pyrah's bowling which inflicted pain on bottom-of-the-table Lightcliffe last week when they were dismissed for 102 as Cleck cruised to victory. Off four overs, Pyrah took two for ten. Unfortunately he failed with the bat on this occasion.
"He is full of confidence - a brilliant player for us," said Cleckheaton president Dave Worrall.
" And, of course, being involved with England is good for Cleckeaton.
"We hope he will be with us next season. But he is a much sought-after lad. We have guaranteed him an opening batting spot and change bowling spot.
"He is building a reputation for himself and needs plenty of batting and bowling which we can provide for him.
"He is also a fine fielder which is why he was chosen for 12th man England duties on Sunday and Monday."
Pyrah's father, Mick, said his son was hoping to secure a Yorkshire second team contract. "He has been playing for the seconds and has been 12th man for Yorkshire first team a few times so being involved with the England team was great experience."
Tomorrow, Cleckheaton visit mid-table Baildon who were well beaten at home to Farsley last week. Struggling Cleckheaton may feel they are in with a shout.
Life doesn't get any easier for Lightcliffe, though, who are hosts to leaders Pudsey Congs. Another winning draw for Congs will not be enough.
Pudsey St Lawrence are home to second-bottom Yeadon and should have few problems gaining maximum points.
The two Pudsey sides continue to dominate the division.
In Division Two, Idle and Gomersal share the lead at the top of the table. Idle have a tricky match at home to Salts, who have more problems off the field than on it. Salts are in severe financial difficulties but they have won seven matches this season and are no pushovers.
Gomersal go to bottom club Windhill confident of victory.
