The Telegraph & Argus Football League kicked off in style on Wednesday evening with goals flying in from all angles.

Champions TFD Centre saw off new boys Isaacs and immediately sounded a warning to the rest of the Premier Division.

Secretary Craig Manning said: "We have strengthened our squad with a few new signings and we believe we will win the league again. One of our new recruits, John Pickard, scored on his debut. He is a lamp-post of a striker and will do well."

TFD's feared strikeforce of Jamie McEwan and Adrian Lowther did the damage with two goals apiece in the 6-2 demolition - away from home. Jimmy McLoughlin got the other.

Station Athletic beat Upper Croft 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Charles White.

The Eccleshill team's headquarters are now based at the Prince of Wales in Harrogate Road. The landlord switched pubs and took the team along with him.

Chris Walker hit a hat-trick for Buttershaw Bantams but a brilliant display by Sycamores FC's 17-year-old goalkeeper Alan Marsden stopped a rout.

Sycamores, with five 15-year-olds in the side, pulled back from 3-1 to draw the match thanks to goals from Dean James (2) and Jamie Groak.

Usave DIY found the going tough in their opening game of the season. They travelled to Royal (Clayton) and were hammered 4-1. Michael Fergusson, Gary Smith, Dave Woodfedin and Gavin Strachan all got on the scoresheet.

Lidget Green side, The Priory, who won the old Grattan League Division One last season, got off to a flyer with a 6-3 victory over White Hart. Paul Jennings (2), Chris Bottomley (2), Johnnie Taylor and Lee Judson were the scorers.

Tomorrow, The Priory travel to TFD Centre so expect an avalanche of goals!
