Anger over the County Council's failure to provide a pedestrian crossing on Thornton Road, Bradford, has lead Thornton Residents' Association to call a public meeting to discuss the matter. The residents say they have been pressing the county council to provide a crossing for three years.

Mr John Cobb will probably begin trial runs today at Loch Ness in the jet-propelled speed boat, Crusader, in which he is to attempt to beat the world's water speed record of 178.4 miles an hour.
