A Keighley bookie was stung in his own shop this week.
Betting shop manager Simon Parkinson was caught up in the sting operation on Tuesday morning when he was attacked by a swarm of wasps as he opened Young Brothers (bookmakers) Ltd.
Simon was stung a number of times before he managed to escape the shop on Cavendish Street, which had to be closed for an hour while the wasps were cleared.
He said: "I was stung four times on the head and once on the foot. I suppose it makes a change, a bookie getting stung."
The trouble began when Simon arrived to open up at 9.30am and noticed a crack in the ceiling above the staff counter.
Before he could investigate the plaster fell away revealing a large wasps' nest and releasing the swarm.
Simon called Owen Metcalfe, of OWM Pest Control, who said: "I got a call at five to ten saying 'can you come straight away, we can't open the shop because it's full of wasps'. He did really well. A lot of people panic but he didn't. He looked after his customers and stopped anybody from going into the shop."
