Steve Banks has warned City goalkeeper Aidan Davison: I've not come here to warm the bench.

Banks, signed to cover Gary Walsh's knee injury, was among the substitutes against Rotherham this afternoon.

But the loan keeper plans to change that during his three-month stay at Valley Parade.

Banks, 30, has thrown down the gauntlet to Davison saying: "I've come here to play first-team football. I don't want to spend my time sat on the bench again.

"I've done that for the last couple of years not doing an awful lot and now I want to get my career back on track.

"It's entirely up to me. I've come here and the manager's said it's up to us two to fight it out and I'm happy with that.

"If Aidan's playing well he stays in there. If he's not and I am, then I get the chance. That's the way it should be."

Banks has found opportunities strictly limited at Bolton behind Finland international Jussi Jaaskelainen. His last Premiership game was nearly a year ago at Villa Park and he finished the season on loan at Rochdale in Division Three.

The bulk of his 312 appearances were playing for Blackpool. And he was with the Tangerines for that famous play-off battle against City in 1996.

"I remember it well," he said. "Although I was on the bench again at the time and Eric Nixon was in goal. Bradford were all over us in the second leg and won it.

"Those were the start of some really good times for this club. Obviously the last year or so has not been great but that's over with now and hopefully we will soon be on the up again.

"The lads are a very close-knit bunch after the things that have happened and I'm really looking forward to the challenge of coming here.

"I've been on the bench consistently for the last two years. Now it's time for me to get out and get playing again."
