Two people were rescued from flats in Cleckheaton after a fire broke out in a hallway.
A 41-year-old man was led to safety down the stairs and a 43-year-old man was taken through a window at the flats on Whitechapel Road.
The younger man needed oxygen from paramedics but did not require hospital treatment. The 43-year-old did not need any treatment.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire which happened at 1.25am today.
Firefighters from Cleckheaton, Odsal and Batley worked to bring the blaze under control.
Sub-officer Steve Manners, of Cleckheaton Fire Station, said: "When we arrived the common hallway and stairs to the flats were heavily smoke- logged.
"A man in one of the flats was woken when his smoke detector went off and he called the fire brigade. There was severe fire damage to the door of one of the flats and a lot of smoke damage, but it was confined to the hallway."
