If you came expecting Glastonbury or Woodstock then you probably went home disappointed. Music at Myrtle was not so much rock 'n roll as picnics, pushchairs and even family pets.

While yesterday's crowd in Bingley's Myrtle Park revelled in the raw energy of a rock concert, Saturday's crowd were an altogether more refined bunch.

Families set out blankets on the ground and passed around the quiche and party sausages. Many brought umbrellas with them but thankfully the threatening grey skies held off.

This was all about taking it easy and enjoying the music with friends in a crowd which swelled to about 15,000.

As the first Irish and Country numbers rang out, the bar began doing some good trade.

For those who wanted a bit of space away from the stage for their children or even their pet dog to let off steam, they could always catch the action on the giant screen.

And while many were content tapping their foot along to tribute bands such as Queen B, the Backbeat Beatles and Abbasolutely, others just had to get up and dance.

Today the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Richard Wightman, said: "Both of the events were superb and really did the district proud.

"Thousands of people came together and enjoyed themselves without the slightest hint of aggravation or aggression."

"These things do not happen without a huge amount of planning and the people who organised both events have done a fabulous job."
