In front of cheering crowds and flashing cameras Bradford's beautiful people took to the catwalk for the finals of the Telegraph & Argus Model Search competition.

About 130 people battled it out to be crowned the kings and queens of the Kirkgate Centre before proud parents, friends and shoppers.

A crowd of 500 crammed into the upper shopping mall to watch the wannabe models take to the catwalk for the grand final.

Contestants were fighting it out to win vouchers to spend at shops in the centre.

Finalists also got the chance to be considered by Nemesis Model Agency, which has offices in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham.

Model Search director Michael Knowles was on hand to act as compere for the event.

In the first category, ages four to six, Hibah Shah, six, won the girls' event after wowing the judges with her winning smile.

Harry Myatt, five, and Elliott Phillips, five, shared the prize in the boys' section as the votes cast for them were tied.

Amie Hussain, aged seven, of Heaton, and Connor Jackson, nine, of Wyke, scooped the prizes in the seven to ten-year-old category.

After each contestant had strutted their stuff in the adult section, the judges decided that 25-year-old Ruzvana Bashir and 19-year-old John Scott, of Wibsey (both pictured), had that little bit extra to win.

Last, but by no means least, the 11 to 15-year-olds hit the stage and, after a keenly fought contest, Ciara Rafferty, 13, and Ryan Labourn, 12, won the prizes.

Model Matt Bates, who is on Nemesis Model Agency's books and who was a judge for the day, said he was impressed with the standard of entrants.

"The standard was really high," said the 29-year-old. "It was a very difficult decision for the judges to make in all age groups."

John Scott, winner of the adult male category, said he was amazed that he had won.

"It's been great," he said. "I really didn't expect to win it but it's been a great experience."

Model Search director Michael Knowles said: Everybody's attitude and enthusiasm was first rate and Bradford should be proud of its people after this great show."
