A celebration of village life in Burley-in-Wharfedale will feature a world famous tapestry as its centrepiece.
St Mary's Parish Church is preparing to display the Heaton Millennium Tapestry as part of its weekend long Celebration of Community.
The result of a massive
community effort by churches, schools and other groups in Heaton, Bradford, the cloth has been widely praised and lent out to groups across the country since its completion.
On Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 the people of Burley will have the chance to display the different aspects of their own community.
Every group which is listed on the village's website will be invited to put up a poster about its work and there will be bigger displays from local
voluntary groups, shops and businesses.
The Vicar of St Mary's, Reverend Peter Sutcliffe, said: "Communities are vitally important things but they don't just happen.
"Burley is a stimulating and vibrant place, with so much going on. It's only like that because so many people do their bit to make it like that.
"This weekend is designed to help us celebrate the community we live in and the people who make it the way it is."
Open from 10am to 5pm on the Saturday and from 2pm on the Sunday, the weekend will be rounded off with a Songs of Praise service with the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Richard Wightman, among the guests.
Chairman of Burley Community Council, Bruce Speed, said: "I've been looking forward to seeing the tapestry and am very pleased that St Mary's has also decided to take up the opportunity to celebrate community life in Burley.
"I am sure this event will receive wide support."
Any groups who would like to take part can contact the Parish Office on (01943) 864405 or send an e-mail to Rev Sutcliffe at peter.sutcliffe@btinternet.com.
