Miners' leader Joe Gormley was roughed up by a mob of left-wing demonstrators as he left the TUC conference at lunchtime today. He was pushed and pulled for more than ten minutes as demonstrators surged round him. About ten police formed a cordon and escorted him with difficulty for more than 200 yards from the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

Four schools in Bradford now have only a little more than half the pupils for whom they could cater, yet in the chief residential areas some schools are overcrowded. The half-empty schools are: St. James's, Manchester Road; the Cathedral School; St. Jude's Manningham; St. Paul's Manningham. The problem is one which educationalists are having to face in industrial cities in all parts of the country.
