Spen Valley residents are being asked to do their bit for the environment by recycling their Yellow Pages telephone books - but not in their green wheeled bins.
Local editions of Yellow Pages are being updated this month and old books can be recycled in paper recycling banks which can be found in most supermarket car parks and household waste recycling centres. But they should not be put into green bins for recycling.
It is estimated that there will be at least 250,000 old Yellow Pages from homes and businesses in Kirklees. People often forget they can be recycled but Yellow Pages can be made into lots of different products, including animal bedding, loft insulation and road surfacing.
Kirklees Council staff have their own scheme to recycle Yellow Pages. They aim to recycle as many as possible to contribute to the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
For the location of your nearest paper recycling bank, phone the Recycling Line on (01484) 223115.
