SATURDAY provided relegation threatened Yeadon's finest hour. They gave high riding Pudsey St Lawrence a real slap in the face and boosted their survival hopes with a breathtaking victory.

Yeadon were so short of players last week that they were unable to raise a second team. This week chicken pox victim John Roper, Neil Elvidge and Craig Thornton returned and what a return.

Pudsey flayed the weakened Yeadon bowling attack and were so confident of success that they declared at 312-3 with nine overs to go.

After losing two early wickets Yeadon skipper Craig Thornton promoted himself to number three and set things going with a fine 50. Neil Elvidge was totally destructive in a superb innings of 99 while Waseem Munawar batted as well as he has done this season for 27. Damon Gormley got an unlucky lbw after making 38 but then man in form Grant Soames and Chris Henry brought a sensational victory. Soames nudged it around for 20 not out content to let Henry take the limelight.

"Chris played smart cricket for three or four overs but then reverted to form and smacked it to all parts of the ground. He hit two of the biggest sixes I have seen in a long time," said Thornton.

Henry finished with 47 no as Yeadon gained a four wickets win and set a new aggregate record.

"It was to good to get one over on Pudsey. They weren't too happy. Only a couple of them would shake our hands," said Thornton(right).
