Maine Road 1
Guiseley 2
GUISELEY finally broke their duck and notched their first win of the season on Saturday and what a vital victory it was for the club.
It guaranteed a £1,000 pay day from the FA Cup fund and put them into the next round at home to Hebburn where £7,500 is on offer to the winning team.
Money like this is the saviour of many of the non-league clubs and Guiseley need to continue with a good FA Cup run to secure their future.
On Saturday they made the trip to Maine Road, Manchester, no not to play Kevin Keegan's Manchester City but to play the neighbouring North West Counties League side.
Neil Parsley's side was a patched up affair with a number of his squad struggling with injuries and Gary Shaw suspended.
Guiseley started with plenty of possession and Clive Freeman's right foot shot after 12 minutes was saved. Dave Henry then turned and shot just wide before Ryan Senior had a one-on-one before putting the ball wide.
With big striker Rob Pell injured Andy Watson was recalled to the fray and he hit the side netting after 22 minutes.
Guiseley continued to create a string of chances James Nettleton headed a Mark Stuart corner over the bar.
Guiseley then got the breakthrough they needed when David Cooke netted from an Andy Watson cross in the 32nd minute.
Maine Road then drew level in the 34th minute through Tommy Murray and Guiseley were left to ponder over the half-time break whether this was going to be another game where they created a chances only to be left empty handed.
The chances continued to flow in the second-half and Dave Henry had a shot saved in the 55th minute. Mark Stuart had an effort tipped over and then the same player put in a cross which Andy Watson headed wide.
Guiseley after a somewhat lack lustre perfor mance netted the winner when Lee Reilly was brought down and Stuart stepped forward to net the penalty and give Guiseley a much needed win.
Newhouse hat-trick
in scintillating win
Guiseley 7
Bishop Auckland 0
GUISELEY produced some scintillating football to rock last season's Premier Division side Bishop Auckland at Nethermoor on Monday.
All the frustrations of the early season games when they created chances which they could not put away evaporated into a carnival atmosphere as Guiseley almost scored at will.
Bishops were a Premier Division side last season and were relegated because their ground share at Shildon was not of the permitted grade.
However, Monday night was all about Guiseley and it was they who looked the Premier Division side with some quality football.
Where the big men have struggled the little men thrived. Ryan Senior, last season's young scoring sensation, is getting more and more frustrated as he fails to find the net this time.
However, his explosive 30 yarder deserved a much better fate than to virtually scrape the bar.
With Rob Pell injured and leaving for Norway and Senior and Andy Watson both having to leave the fray injured the little guys proved that small is beautiful as Guiseley went on the rampage.
They played some delightful football which had the crowd in raptures and young substitutes Lee Reilly and Kevin Newhouse were far too sharp, determined and clinical for Bishops.
Two superb early goals from Mark Stuart had set Guiseley on their way, one direct from a 25 free-kick, the other a magnificent move in which full back Peter Atkinson was the driving force.
David Cooke then rose above 'keeper Finch to head home Mark Stuart's corner for 3-0.
In the second-half Cooke's persistence was rewarded by Reilly volleying home from ten yards. With Bishop's now looking a well beaten side Guiseley went on the rampage.
Reilly's shot was well saved by Finch, who also managed to block Stuart's follow-up but he was left helpless as Kevin Newhouse crashed the ball in off the underside of the crossbar.
Shutt's long punt was then picked up by Reilly who set Newhouse up for his second and the youngster completed his hat-trick when Finch allowed his shot to trickle into the net through his legs.
l On Saturday Guiseley travel to Belper in the UniBond Division One. Manager Neil Parsley will be hoping that some of his injured stars are available for selection.
