Councillors in Denholme are calling for a clampdown on people driving in the wrong direction along one way streets.
Members of the council are concerned that if the practice continues it will lead to an accident.
Councillor Nora Haldenby said: "There has been a lot of complaints from people about drivers coming out of one way streets. It needs stopping."
Town mayor Councillor Anne Jay said: "I think this is something that we should encourage the new traffic warden to tackle. We need a warden up here as soon as possible."
Unsheeted lorries are causing a threat to pedestrians and other road users, according to new town councillor Graham Astell-Burt.
He believes that lorries spilling parts of their load, particularly those carrying stone chips, are posing a threat to drivers, particularly at Doctor's Bridge.
Councillor Astell-Burt said: "My car has been hit by stone chips and if people had been walking on the pavement they would have been hit as well."
He asked about the use of speed cameras but was told by fellow councillors that the police had said previously that the stretch of road was not long enough for speed cameras.
Villagers have also expressed concerns about blocked drains in the village, particularly in Buck Street.
They say the situation has been made worse after recent road resurfacing because stone chips are collecting in grates and drains.
lGraham Astell-Burt and David Rushton were welcomed on to the town council.
