A spur of the moment decision to join a college course has led to the birth of a new business for a Keighley mum. Former keep-fit teacher Donna Harris, 40, popped into Keighley College out of curiosity a year ago.
"When I came out I had enrolled for a one-year holistic therapies course," said Donna, pictured left with her Student of the Year award. "I hoped I had done the right thing!"
When she got home she then had to tell husband Carl she wouldn't be able to do her part-time job helping with his audio-visual business in Bradford.
"The course was great. I really enjoyed it, although it was hard work," said Donna, mother of 15-year-old twins Kara and Kristina.
Donna, who has spent most of her life in the Keighley area and now lives at Goose Eye, said she was a little worried about doing the course originally.
But she surprised herself, and was so successful that she won the beauty and holistic department's Student of the Year award from among the 250 taking part.
Now she has opened her own business, offering a wide range of treatments, including aromatherapy and facials, Swedish body massage, reflexology and Indian head massage.
Donna is based at the No 7 Club -- a women-only health club -- in Devonshire Street. But she stresses her services are available to all, not just club members, and she can take both male and female clients.
The business opens on Tuesday, and will be open Tuesdays (9.30am-8pm), Fridays (1pm-8pm) and alternate Saturdays from September 14. For more details contact Donna on 01535 213848.
