Entrepreneur Paul Cannon has his sights firmly focused on a new business venture, with an innovative product he believes has major potential in both the corporate and domestic market sectors.
Paul, 48, from Oxenhope, has launched his fledgling company Cancam, through which he is marketing and selling a new-to-the-market wireless CCTV monitoring system.
Since being made redundant in 1990, Paul has turned his hand to a variety of roles, including second-hand car salesman and mature student, having gained a BSc degree at the University of Bradford. Since graduating, he has helped several companies increase productivity while reducing expenditure.
With Cancam, Paul believes he has identified an important niche in the security sector and is now targeting small businesses and households throughout West Yorkshire.
He explained: "The wireless CCTV monitoring system is low cost, can be installed and working in minutes and has many applications, including the protection of property, assets and loved ones.
"It has both vision and sound capabilities and can be used either externally or internally, with a range of 100 metres outside in the open air or 30 metres inside a building.
"The Cancam is lightweight and easily portable, features an in-built alarm system, and both the camera and monitor can be run on mains or battery power.
"A facility for multiple cameras allows several areas to be monitored from a central point at the same time. It can also be connected to a video recorder for a permanent record of activity."
Paul is convinced the system is ideally suited to small businesses seeking to combat theft, but which do not have the budget for more expensive CCTV systems, and to individuals looking to protect their own property, such as garages or outbuildings.
He has also identified other applications for the Cancam -- as a baby monitoring device for parents who want to keep an eye on their offspring, a door entry system, as well as in residential or nursing homes where staff need to closely watch over residents or patients who may be unwell.
Crime prevention officers and neighbourhood watch committees, along with officials from several local government agencies, have already shown a great deal of interest in the Cancam system.
