Two Keighley men are showing an iron resolve to raise money for Manorlands hospice, in Oxenhope, in a gruelling triathlon.

Joe Kutney, 38, and Peter Newsome, 62, are taking part in the half-ironman triathlon in North Wales on Sunday. The gruelling race involves a one-and-a-half-mile swim in a lake, a 56-mile cycle ride and a run of 13 miles.

Mr Kutney said: "I have done the full ironman race three times before and it is a challenge because of the long distances involved. I train quite hard, doing a combination of long distance runs and cycling and swimming every week. I'm confident about completing it and hope to finish in about five-and-a-quarter-hours.

Mr Newsome was a silver medallist last year in the British Middle Distance Championships in the 60-64 age range category. He said: "I've been training now for about six months and am hoping to finish in about six hours."
