Keighley and Craven AC won the team prize in the ten-mile road race at Burnsall's Feast of Sports.

They had James Callaghan third in 56min 47sec behind winner Ian Fisher from Otley who finished in 52-44. Completing the Keighley team were Liam Spencer, 11th in 60-52 and Warren Storton, 14th in 62-32. Bingley Harrier Stuart MacDonald was fourth in 57-12.

Keighley's Jacqui Foster (74-10) was third lady and clubmate Christine Preston (78-04) fourth.

Preston then showed her versatility - and stamina - by donning fell shoes to take part in the one and a half mile, 900ft climb Burnsall Classic, which she competed in an admirable 24-14 for 89th place overall.

Robert Hope, from Pudsey and Bramley, took the main honours for the first time in 13-54, 19 seconds ahead of Bingley Harriers Ian Holmes, second, and Andy Peace, third, both timed at 14-13 and separated by the thickness of a vest in a furious finish.

Rob Jebb completed a comprehensive team win for Bingley by taking fourth in 14-22.

In the ladies race, Keighley's Jo Prowse led up the steep fell but couldn't open up a big enough gap to prevent previous winner Sara Hodgson from Fellandale passing her on the rocky descent with Oxen-hope's Jane Smith moving from fourth at the summit cairn to second by the finish with Bingley's Sharon Taylor third and Prowse fourth.

On the following day at Grasmere Sports, Hope was triumphant again ahead of Jebb and Holmes with Peace only sixth.

Bingley's Colin Moses, seventh at Burnsall, took first place at Halton Ghyll Show.

At Hebden Sports, Holmes finally hit the tape first from Mark Roberts, Ted Mason and James Mason, with Karen Slater first lady.

In the under-nines race Jessica Wootton was first girl and second overall.
