Bradford scouts like Matthew Davies, 13, of 4th Bradford East, pictured left, and Liam Nicholson, ten, of 30th Bradford East, went bonkers over conkers at their annual camp.

The conker challenge was just one of many outdoor activities lined up for the boys who were staying at Blackhills in Cottingley.

Conkers made national headlines last week when they were banned from one scout pack in Windsor, Berkshire.

But Bradford East District Commissioner Chris Marshall, who refereed this weekend's conker challenge, said he had no intention of putting a stop to the age-old conker bashing game in his division.

Mr Marshall said: "To my knowledge there aren't any scout packs in the whole of Bradford who have put a ban on conkers.

"Most childhood games have an element of risk to them but as adventure scouts there are far more potentially hazardous activities we do than just playing conkers! As pack leaders we all have a responsibility to put children's safety first and decide whether there are risks or not so it's up to each individual pack leader to decide whether or not to ban conkers.

"I think the worries in Berkshire are because of the current compensation culture where people are all too quick to sue.
