A village school has been reopened by the oldest of its old boys and girls.
Hannah Walmsley and Lewis Binns cut the ribbon during last Saturday's official opening of the refurbished Stanbury Primary School. The pair were chosen because they are believed to be the oldest ex-pupils who are still living in Stanbury. For many years most of the school's pupils have had to learn in portable classrooms.
The school was closed for 12 months from summer 2000 so a two-storey extension could be built on the back of the existing Victorian building.
Pupils moved to the former Haworth First School building while Bradford Council carried out the improvement work.
Although pupils moved back to Stanbury last September, the official opening was delayed until last Saturday's Christmas fair.
The fair, organised by the school's Friends group, raised £626. The Friends are rebuilding their funds after paying £4,000 towards the refurbishment of two classrooms.
Lewis Binns and Hannah Walmsley, both aged 86, are pictured opening the extension with help from pupils, from left: Niamh Day, five, Edward Jackson, four, and Liam Witney, four.
