Trees on the Skipton Road approach to Keighley town centre have been saved -- for the time being.
Bradford councillors this week approved a revised scheme aimed at cutting traffic congestion on Skipton Road and North Street.
The original plans called for the removal of a well-loved avenue of trees between Spring Gardens Lane and East Avenue.
The tree-felling proposal was dropped following objections from environmentalists and Keighley Town Council.
The revised plans -- which include a car parking ban on the outbound side of Skipton Road -- received all-party support from councillors on Keighley Area Committee.
Members felt it was a suitable compromise between the needs of motorists and protecting the look at the area.
District councillor Malcolm Slater was disappointed that the new plans did not include the originally-proposed cycle lane.
Town councillor Javaid Akhtar called for resident-only parking spaces on the terrace streets off Skipton Road.
