Keighley PHOENIX football club has folded -- just two years after being crowned County Amateur League Champions.
The club swept all before them to take the league title, but this season they have played 11 games without a win, and had pulled their second team out of the competition at the start of the season.
Only Silsden, in the 1970's, and Keighley Town in the 80's have won the County Amateur Championship, and after their success Phoenix were working on big plans to move up the league structure.
At one time they hoped to play games at Cougar Park to allow them to move into the top level of the non-League game, but several key players left the club and officials were left struggling to continue.
"It is tremendously sad because they were a well organised club and we thought they were getting over their difficulties," said Amateur League publicity officer Philip Rhodes.
The final nail in the club's coffin was a 2-1 defeat by Golcar United last weekend. Dave Nelson scored for Phoenix, but the defeat meant they had played 11 games, and lost 11 with 66 goals against while scoring just 11.
n Steeton beat Eastmoor 2-0 in Division One with both goals coming from Adam Whiteoak.
Keighley Shamrocks also clocked up a good win, beating Hunsworth 4-1 with goals from Howard Wellwood (2), Dave Fradley and Ryan Scott.
Keighley Shamrocks Reserves beat Dudley Hill Rangers 2-1 with mark Ross and Jack Kershaw on target.
Joynal Ali and Simon Permain scored for Steeton Reserves in their 2-0 derby victory over Silsden Reserves.
