A woman who uses a false limb after having part of her leg amputated 40 years ago has been refused a disabled car parking pass because she is not considered disabled enough for one.
Bradford Council is reviewing the scheme which awards blue badges to disabled drivers. One-legged pensioner Brenda Lawson, 65, was turned down for a blue badge after having held an orange badge for 20 years under the previous system.
The orange badge gave her parking concessions.
But under the scheme, Mrs Lawson was told she was not eligible for a blue badge because she could walk, with a false leg, for 100 yards.
"It's ridiculous as it is penalising people who need it most." said Mrs Lawson, of Park Road, Menston.
The former Ilkley Town Hall telephonist had the bottom half of her left leg amputated 39 years ago after years of operations to correct problems with her foot and toes.
"Now I can't park as near to shops as I'd like and, although on a good day I can walk about 100 yards, not every day is a good day and I can't always park within 100 yards," said Mrs Lawson, who looks after husband Clifford who cannot walk after suffering a stroke.
Today a Bradford Council spokesman said the overview and scrutiny committee had agreed to set up a special group to look at how blue badges are granted.
