A 23-year-old man carried out bag snatches on two elderly women in daylight, a jury was told.
Ashaq Sattar allegedly robbed the pensioners, aged 71 and 82, during separate incidents in Heckmondwike,
Bradford Crown Court heard how both were injured when they fell to the ground.
In her statement, Audrey North described how she was walking down Grosvenor Terrace with her friend one afternoon last March when she felt a tug on her left arm.
The 71-year-old said she then banged her head on the road and realised her shopping bag containing more than £300 had been taken.
She suffered a cut to her finger, bruising and swelling to her hand, a sore hip and a headache.
The court was told Michael Smith was walking nearby when he heard calls for help and ran after the robber.
He said the man later handed over the bag after being cornered on waste ground near a pub.
Prosecutor John Worall described how Grace Clegg was robbed as she was standing at a bus stop in Chapel Lane, Heckmondwike, more than three months later.
He said the 82-year-old lost her balance and fell to the ground after her shopping bag containing more than £20 was tugged. She broke her wrist and needed hospital treatment.
When interviewed, Sattar, of Claremont, Heckmondwike, denied he was involved in either incident.
He pleaded not guilty to two charges of robbery.
The trial continues.
