Amended plans for flats and houses in Pool-in-Wharfedale are the best that have been submitted so far, according to the parish council.
But there is still a long way to go before villagers will be happy with the ideas proposed by Consort Homes for the former Monkmans Bistro site, off Swallow Drive.
The plans have been amended to reduce the height and density of the buildings and change the access point to the proposed development.
The site has been the centre of much controversy after the Georgian style building was demolished last month. Leaving developers with a blank canvass to work on.
Following a site visit to Pool last week, Leeds City Council planning panel members discovered that more amended plans were going to be submitted.
They agreed that Pool Parish Council should be consulted about the amended plans.
At the most recent Parish Council meeting, the plans were examined and Chairman Hazel Lee said that they were very slowly becoming more acceptable.
A previous application for six houses and a block of two flats was refused in February and an appeal has been held in abeyance until the current plan has been decided.
The current plan is for seven two storey detached houses and ten flats.
Mrs Lee said: "We are pleased to see that the plans show that the buildings will be two storeys high, not higher, as was proposed recently.
"And we are also pleased that access will be on to Swallow Drive and not directly on to Pool Bank New Road."
