A man who carried out bag snatches on two elderly women in broad daylight has been jailed for five years.
Ashaq Sattar was found guilty of robbing the pensioners in Heckmondwike earlier this year. The 23-year-old admitted stealing a mobile phone in a separate incident.
Bradford Crown Court heard how Audrey North and Grace Clegg were both injured when they were knocked to the ground.
Sentencing him, Recorder Christopher Storey QC said: "You have brought dishonour on your family by two particularly serious attacks on defenceless old women."
He added: "You have shown no remorse for what you did."
The court was told Michael Smith was walking nearby when Audrey North, 71, was attacked in Grosvenor Terrace. He ran after Sattar who handed over the bag after being cornered on waste ground.
The second incident happened more than three months later. Grace Clegg, 82, was robbed as she was standing at a bus stop in Chapel Lane, Heckmondwike.
Sattar, of Claremont, Heckmondwike, had pleaded not guilty to two charges of robbery.
He told the jury he had been at home and had then gone to see a friend when the first incident occured. Asked by his barrister if he took part in the robbery, he replied: "No."
Sattar also denied robbing Grace Clegg. He claimed he went to his cousin's house, spent 20 minutes there and returned home.
The Recorder awarded Mr Smith £125 from public funds.
