A Bradford nurse has beaten odds of 20 million to one to scoop a lottery's two biggest prizes in eight months.
Staff nurse Karen Worsley, pictured, who stakes just £1 each month, is now the proud owner of a £6,000 car and a holiday worth £3,000.
Karen, who works in Bradford Royal Infirmary's Ear, Nose and Throat department, was delighted when she won the holiday in the Bradford NHS Lottery earlier this year.
And she was stunned when just a few months later her numbers matched up again to win her a brand new Seat Arosa - the first time anyone has ever won both big prizes in one year.
Karen, 42, of Shelf, who has been playing the hospital lottery for three years, was told last week she had won the top prize again.
"I am totally and utterly shocked," said the mother-of-one. "I was overjoyed when I won the holiday in spring and when I was called last week saying I had won a car as well I was absolutely speechless.
"I have won the odd bottle of wine in a raffle before, but never anything like this."
Karen is planning a dream holiday to Australia in the new year.
"With a new car too it really will be a fantastic Christmas," she said. "The lovely new Seat will allow me to replace my own car, a six-year-old VW Polo, which has 44,000 on the clock"
Karen will share the prizes with her partner, Paul Goulding, 56, who works in IT at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
He was with her to pick up the car at BRI from Bradford Hospitals NHS Trust chief executive, David Jackson and John Heaton, sales executive of JCT600, the Bradford company which supplied the vehicle.
Mr Jackson, said: "This is wonderful news for one of our nurses, we are really delighted for her."
Also at the presentation was the Trust's estates, services and transport manager, John Sidebottom, who has looked after the Bradford NHS Lottery, known as the 50/50 draw, since it was launched more than a decade ago.
Mr Sidebottom, who worked out the odds of the double win at 20 million to one, said: "In all my years of involvement I have never know anyone to win the two big prizes. It is amazing."
More than 2,000 of the eligible 6,000 NHS workers in Bradford have joined the lottery. Since its launch it has handed out more than £200,000 in prizes, including a dozen cars. Half the money raised is given back to the NHS in Bradford to improve patient care.
Each month a machine randomly picks the winning line and there is a chance to win cash prizes, but twice a year there is the opportunity to win the big prize of the holiday and the car.
