Leading scorer Lee Grice was a late withdrawal with an upset stomach from a Saturday night curry and as it turned out Shoulder of Mutton didn't need him as they ran out 9-3 winners over Queensbridge in the second round of the Intermediate Cup.

Queensbridge, however, did produce a scare. After Mutton had roared to 4-0 up they pulled back to 4-3 before Shoulder accelerated again to finish easy winners. Stuart Burgess and Chris Riley led the rout with hat-tricks.

Fairweather Green became the first Alliance team through to the West Riding County Cup fourth round with a 5-4 win at Pontefract's Fox.

Trailing for the majority of the game, Green earned their home tie in the next round to Merlins with two goals in the last five minutes.

In the Sunday Alliance Premier Division, playing their first game for a month Oakenshaw shook off their rustiness in the second half at Wrose Bull to earn a point in a 2-2 draw.

With a well-taken volley from Jonathan White and Andy Thirkhill's conversion of a Martin Dolan cross at the far post, Bull moved in front 2-0. But a controversial offside decision didn't help Wrose's cause and Oakenshaw levelled through Martin Papworth and Simon Inch.

There was a late flurry of goals at Crown who were 9-1 winners over Bradford Moor. Matthew Pearmain finished top scorer with four and there was a goal from the latest promising Crown youngster Kevin Larkin.

Down to ten men after ten minutes and a goal down at half-time, a typical battling display from East Ward earned them a 4-2 win over Queensbury.

While there were good displays from two-goal heroes Danny Mullarkey and Steve Bromley, centre half Andy Sugden was Ward's man-of-the-match.

With Westwood unable to raise a team at West Bowling, the First Division programme was reduced to two games.

Hare & Hounds' 1-0 win at Chellow saw them move up from fifth to third and Queensbury Reserves, down to the bare bones with players answering first team calls, earned a creditable 0-0 draw with Stanley Road.

The four sides that have moved away from the rest of the division were in direct opposition in 1A.

Leaders Waggoners came off the rails at Idle where two-goal Danny Kitcherman and Steve Brooksbank (penalty) did the damage.

Idle's Richard Hannam saved a second-half penalty in a 3-0 result which lifts his side from fourth to third. Waggoners' defeat was good news for Clayton Orient whose 3-1 win over neighbours Quarry sees them end 2002 as leaders and saw Quarry drop into fourth place.

Defender Lee Smith, who was up with the attack for a set piece, squeezed the ball over the line for Clayton after six minutes, striker Wayne Fisher beat the offside trap for a second on 18 minutes and it looked as if Clayton would seal the game in the first half. But Andy Wilson gave Quarry hope after 61 minutes when he cleverly held off two defenders to make it 2-1. Almost immediately substitute Paul Cuthbertson marked his return from Australia with a breakaway goal down the flank to sink Quarry 3-1.

Division Four leaders Tuckers visited fourth-from-bottom side Barley Mow. With no official at 11am, Eddie Kalinowski stepped into the breach to referee an exciting game.

With only ten men at the start, Tuckers took the game to Barley Mow. Left back Daniel Scrimshaw eventually scored but the lead was short-lived.

Barley Mow were awarded a free kick five yards outside the area and made no mistake when the ball was struck home through a crowd of players to level the game.
