CHILDREN at Addingham Primary School may be shepherded to school from central dropping off points to avoid the dangers of crossing the busy Bolton Road, parish councillors have been told.
There will be a meeting of parents in the new year to try and establish a 'walking bus' scheme, said Parish Councillor Danny Palmer.
He said parents may be encouraged to park and drop their children off in the car parks at the Memorial Hall and a public house on Main Street before being taken to school as a group.
But Coun Palmer told the parish council meeting that he was not sure the scheme could be co-ordinated successfully.
"How successful this is going to be I don't know because there are so many young children at the school and parents with even younger children," said Coun Palmer.
Before the plan could be implemented, representatives of the school would have to approach the Memorial Hall committee for permission to use the private car park.
And parish councillor Bill Preston said many parents who work will not have the time to drop off their children then wait until the 'walking bus' sets off for the school.
Parents dropping children off have been asked not to park in certain areas and all pedestrians on the way to school have been requested to cross Bolton Road at the same point to minimise dangers and increase the chances of Bradford Council installing a pedestrian crossing at that point.
So far, many have not complied with the request, said Coun Palmer.
He said: "People have been asked but they seem to be taking not the slightest bit of notice. They should all cross at the same point because if they don't cross at the same point, our chances of getting a crossing are zero."
The parish council and the school want to see road safety measures - which could be a lollipop person or a pedestrian crossing - implemented at the school as soon as possible. The school road safety meeting will take place on January 21, Coun Palmer said.
