A SPECIAL testimonial match was staged at Ilkley RUFC's Stacks Field ground on Sunday morning to mark the long service to the club of two veteran players.
Chris Hems and Steve Williams have contributed much to Ilkley RUFC over many years and the popular duo welcomed back a host of former players to enjoy what was a special day.
Steve Williams turned out in a pair of golden shorts which meant under veterans' rules that he could not be tackled.
He took advantage of this to score the winning try in a game which ended 42-35 to his side.
Such was the friendliness of the match that Hems and Williams even changed sides at one point!
The idea for the golden shorts came from the veterans' game in Canada where different coloured shorts are worn by the different ages and those in the golden shorts are not allowed to be tackled.
Former Ilkley players Paul Gray, Duncan Sayers and Simon Smith joined in the fun and indeed Smith was unveiled as the Ilkley club's new signing to give their Yorkshire Division Two hopes a boost.
