A member of hospital staff has been suspended following the death of a Calverley pensioner in Leeds General Infirmary.
Police and hospital chiefs confirmed today they were investigating the death of 86-year-old Ethel Hall.
She died on December 11 after being admitted to hospital the previous month for a routine operation.
Inquiries are believed to focus on why Mrs Hall, who was not diabetic, had high levels of insulin in her body.
A spokesman for the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: "The hospital called in police because of concerns arising following the illness and subsequent death of an elderly female patient.
"We are co-operating fully with police inquiries and have suspended a member of staff pending their conclusion."
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed a 26-year-old Leeds man had been arrested by officers investigating Mrs Hall's death.
He was later released on bail.
The spokesman said Detective Superintendent Chris Gregg was leading the investigation and that police were called in by hospital staff on December 6.
Mrs Hall, a retired shopkeeper, was married to John and had a son, Stuart, and two grandchildren.
