Nicky Law has revealed how grateful he is to have the avoided the sack after City's seven-game losing run.

The Bantams have now won three of their last four since those dark days to pull clear of the drop zone, further cementing their survival bid with a superb 2-1 victory at Wolves on Saturday.

They are now level on points with Walsall and only three behind Preston ahead of the New Year's Day visit to relegation rival Grimsby.

But Law has admitted for the first time that he feared the possibility of the axe following one of the worst runs in the club's history.

He said: "If I said it hadn't crossed my mind I would be lying. But I've had a lot of support from the people above and I'm grateful for that belief in me.

"It could have been quite easy for them after the seven games to have said it was perhaps time to move on.

"But then again if it had happened it would possibly have been unfair. Maybe if I'd had a good budget to bring in the type of players I would have liked then I could have said I'd not done my stuff.

"It's still a great club and a privilege for me to manage it. We've been crippled by what happened in the summer and it has put everyone on the floor.

"It was important that while all this was going on there was no mud slung and it was my job to keep the players believing. Hopefully now they are realising that all of that hard work was worth it."

City ended a record of eight successive away defeats at Molineux. Midfielder Claus Jorgensen, who hit the first goal, said: "We worked really hard again but the difference this time was that we were clever and disciplined."

Law added: "We could have been sat in bottom three now having lost on Thursday and Saturday. But instead we've won two and put on a nigh-on ten point gap between us and the third relegation spot which is a magnificent achievement.

"We've proved all along that when we get up for it and are mentally right we can compete against the best sides. I'm not saying we're going to beat them all but as we've proved against Wolves as well as Ipswich, Norwich and Nottingham Forest when we are ready and hungry we can match anybody."
